From 5 to 8 October 2006, the Bulgarian Surgical Society will
organize the XII-th edition of the National Surgical Congress.
The following main topics will be discussed:
|
Surgery
of the liver. The growing incidence of liver hydatic disease
nowadays turns it into an important social and health-care
issue. The number of liver resections increases. The accumulated
experience demands discussion of the surgical techniques, of the
indications and results used in benign as well as malignant
pathology.
Surgery of the biliary system. It is a frequent object of
investigation. The bile-stone disease ranks third among diseases
requiring abdominal surgery. The diagnostic and treatment
algorithms have undergone considerable changes. With due reason,
infection of the bile tract is treated with more caution, since
it is regarded as one of the main reasons for surgical
complications. Carcinoma of the gall bladder and of the bile
tract should also be given appropriate attention, in accordance
to the increasing number of radical operations.
Surgery of the cardio-esophageal zone. Beside cardiac cancer,
there is a growing number of patients with GERD, diaphragmatic
hernia and other diseases – treated by conventional and
laparoscopic surgery.
One-day surgery. This kind of surgery, from the point of view of
organization, conditions for performing, standards is still
waiting for its regulatory mechanisms that should take into
consideration the surgical need for indications, the primary
clinical experience and the obtained so far results in the
country, the economical efficiency, compared to world
experience.

in medical technologies, equipment, drug treatment will be

congress and to contribute in the exchange of experience and
research data, to draw Bulgarian surgery standards near to those
of the European Union.
The congress will be held at the hospitable “Kempinski -
Zografski” hotel in Sofia, which offers excellent conditions for
the working sessions, as well as exhibition space and facilities
for the companies expected to display equipment, consumables and
drugs.
It is a pleasure for me to announce this event - an occasion for
beneficial meetings and discussions, exchange of information and
experience, of new techniques and methods. We will do our best
to meet your expectations.
It is an honour for me to invite you to take part in the
congress and to give your share for the convention of an
interesting and challenging forum.
